A Plus Means a Minus

Well, I’ve never been one to follow through anyway.

Due to recent events, I will need to step back and not keep up a crazy reading pace; my husband needs more attention from me and my body needs more rest. I just can’t keep up with everything; there’s only so much of me to go around.

What brought on this change? I’m going to have a baby! We just found out Sunday and after lots of tears and laughter, fears shared and feelings admitted, I need to put way more focus on Mr. J than on books. I’ll still be reading–maybe even some of the Kannenberg Canon books–but with much less intensity.

It was a wild ride, a great month, more books and different books than I would normally pick, but I’m thrilled to trade in my classics today at the library for pregnancy books…and maybe even some Beverly Lewis!

Reading Lite

Well, I won’t be finishing all of my books for this month by the end of today; I’ll be lucky to finishMy Antonia by the time the mister and I get back home!
We headed north to visit our folks for the weekend, so instead of living with my nose in a book, I’ll be relishing in giving costume-bedecked children all manner of sugary things. (I always lived in the country, so this is very exciting for a very sheltered girl like myself.)
Anyway, I think I’ll pick up November’s list of books when I get back home and can hit the library; Gulliver’s Travels and David Copperfield will just have to wait for a catch-up day.
And now, bring on the trick-or-treaters!

Bed Calls

Well, I made it quite far; less than 4 hours from the mark! But I really want to get to church in the morning–and I want to sleep!

So, since finishing The Old Man and the Sea, I read three (very short) chapters of My Antonia, bringing my grand totals to:
Minutes read: 769 (12 hours and 49 minutes)
Pages read: 741
Books read: 3 plus 5 chapters (two of David Copperfield, three of My Antonia)
Caffeine units: 3.75
Droopy eyelids: 2
Good-night all, and thanks for a wonderful day of reading!

What Hour Is This?

Finished another! Sure some people have whole stacks of books they’ve finished today, but I’d say three finished books and some change is pretty good for a first timer!
Minutes read: 113 (total 749)
Pages read: 118 (total 722)
Books finished: 3
Caffeine units: 3 and working on a fourth…plus a cup of Ramen!
Sleepy husbands wishing I would go to bed with them: 1
Poor lovie…but the Ramen has revitalized me; I think I’ll alternate between My Antonia and something lighter until I just need to collapse in bed. I’m not a huge Max Lucado fan, but we somehow have a copy of Next Door Savior, so I might peek at that if Willa Cather can’t hold my sleep-deprived attentions.

Finished Book #2!

Phew, that was a long one!  The mister is asking if I’m pooped out yet, but I think I can hang in there!  Skittles and Mountain Dew are definitely helpful!

Minutes read: 186 (total 636)

Pages read: 181 (total 604)

Books finished: 2! Tom Sawyer and The Good Earth

Caffeine units: 3 and climbing

Hope all is well for the other readathoners–keep chugging along!

Minutes read: 75ish? (total 450)
Pages read: 79 (total 423)

All right, my dear husband has dreadful homework, so it may be awhile before I update again! Poo on homework for a thousand reasons!

I’m Back!

Okay, so when I said I’d be back by 4…I really meant 7:45? Anyway, we are fed and watered and got a fancy schmancy air freshener for free plus took in all our recycling, so even if it wasn’t very productive in a literary sense, I think dear hubby needed some attention.
Now his question is, “Back rub?”
To which I respond, “Homework.”
Pause. “Back rub then homework?”
So long as I can have my book.
Read-a-thon, I’m back in the game!

Hour 8 Update

Minutes read: 45 (total 375)

Pages read: 42 (total 344)

Books finished: 1

Caffeine units: still just 2–pretty good for me!

And now comes a break in my reading, as my poor, lonesome hubby looked up from his video game, gave me puppy dog eyes, and asked me if I wanted to go out.

Most likely, we’ll wander Wally World for half an hour, pick up V for Vendetta (he mentioned it last night), and come back.  So maybe I’ll be back to reading by 4?

Happy reading to all, and to all a good…afternoon!

Much Better

Minutes read: 50ish (total: 335)

Pages read: 45 (total 302)

Books finished: 1

Caffeine units: still just 2 total

Currently reading: The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck and not hating it, despite fears from others who hated it in school.

Oh, and for a mini-challenge going on here, I thought that I would mention (if you hadn’t guessed already from my posts) that my dear, darling, ever-lovin’ husband is keeping me company through all of this–and by company I mean that he is now playing LEGO Star Wars on the Wii in the same room as me.

Yes, I married a nerd.  And no, I probably shouldn’t talk as the word could probably applied to yours truly.

Switching Gears…

27 pages in an hour? Mr. Dickens may have to be put aside for a time…we’ll try The Good Earth and a little pizza with the hubby; he told me to find something easy to pop in because of the readathon–isn’t that sweet? Plus he’s reading along with me for now (he’s got his nose stuck in the first Horatio Hornblower book, but he’ll have to get back to homework this afternoon…

So far:

Minutes spent reading: 285
Pages read: 257
Books finished: 1
Caffeine units: 2
